What to look for- Summer Weather

Hey Thrift Buddies!

Okay so I know that this is super super late, but let's still enjoy the last month of summer! Here are three things that you should look out for this summer in your thrift shops!

1) Classic Tops

Classic tops are exactly what they sound like, classic. They basically never go out of style, so stock up whenever you can! Plaid and stripes are patterns that will always have a place in your closet!

2) Denim Skirts

This summer I have really been loving short denim skirts. Thrift stores are overflowing with these and personally I have picked up at least three 3 in the last couple of months. Lighter denim colors especially scream summer. These skirts will keep your legs cool while making you look effortlessly put together.

3) Tropical Dresses

The thrift stores are full of dresses with colorful patterns of birds and fishes. These playful designs are perfect for summer. Wear them to the beach or to a nice dinner!

So hurry into the thrift stores and pick up some summer clothing while the sun is still shining bright!

Searching for Suflowers

Hey Thrift Buddies!

As you guys probably already know, I am in love with sunflowers! Because I love sunflowers so much, I have been searching for the perfect sunflower dress. This search has been very difficult and is often very disappointing. After searching multiple Goodwills many times, I decided to look on ebay. Ebay had a decent selection of vintage sunflower dresses, but they were often very pricey. I was able to find one that was a good price and so I bought it.

This is the first sunflower dress I bought, except it is actually a romper. I really like they bright yellow sunflower pattern against the blue background. However, when I tried on the romper, I didn't like how it fit me...this wasn't my dream sunflower dress.

So I continued to search. I went back on ebay, and found a new sunflower dress. I ordered it and hoped for the best.

Once again I loved the sunflower pattern on the dress, but when I tried it on, it didn't fit right. The dress was a bit too long for my liking and the arm holes were too big for me. This wasn't the dress I was looking for either.

A couple weeks later, I went to Goodwill, and as I was sifting through the dresses, I found this beauty.

I think this might be the one. I love the red and yellow flowers and the flowy skirt. It's a little longer than I desired, but I actually love how it looks. I can't wait to throw this dress on for a sunny day in the park.

Don't give up searching for that special piece! You will find it one day, probably when you least expect it.

Warm Weather & Goodwill Outlet

Hey Thrift Buddies!
It's finally summer! I am enjoying the warm weather and the freedom from school. Because I have so much free time now, I have been visiting Goodwill a lot recently! Also, I found out that the new Goodwill near me has an outlet! Goodwill outlets are amazing, it's basically the clearance section of the thrift store. All the clothes that don't sell in the main stores are sent to the outlet. They throw everything in bins and you have to dig through it all for hidden treasure. I'll be honest, this is not for the fainthearted...I have found some very interesting things in those bins, but I've also found some very awesome things! Also, at the outlet, everything is sold by the pound, meaning you can get a beautiful dress for less than a dollar!

So these are my thrift stores finds from the past couple of weeks. Some of these beauties are from the Goodwill outlet and others are from the main Goodwill store.

Sunflowers ♥

I love the vintage tag on this shirt
Got this awesome jacket for $2 from the outlet

This is actually a skort- so 90's!
I always love a good pair of overalls

Lion t-shirt! I've actually wanted this shirt for a long time!

Overall, I had a great time at Goodwill and the Goodwill outlet.
One of these days I will dedicate a blog post solely to the Goodwill outlet, since I love it so much!

Denim Jacket Restyle

Hey Thrift Buddies,

A couple of months ago, I got a lovely denim jacket from the Salvation Army. Although I love how the jacket looked when I bought it, I wanted to try to personalize it and make it my own. I searched pinterest for jean jacket restyle ideas and here are some I liked.

sew a canvas painting on the back

cover the jacket in patches

I especially liked the jacket with patches, so I decided that I would cover my own jacket in random patches.

This is how my jacket looks right now. It only has a few patches, but every time I am free, I sit down and sew another patch on. I like that the patches give the jacket character and I also like that no one else will have a jacket just like mine!

Maybe in a year, I'll update you guys on what my jacket looks like, hopefully by then it will be fully covered.

Reading Thrift Haul

Hey Thrift Buddies!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that my roommates and I took a trip to Reading, PA to go thrift shopping. We went to 3 different thrift shops that Saturday. I found some awesome things, but I never got the chance to show you what I got.

Here are some of my favorite items from that day.

love this denim dress!

this dress is covered in tiny little daisies. also this dress actually used to be a lot longer, but I cut off the bottom.
classic tee. I cut off the bottom of this shirt too.
I love this light denim skirt, it actually used to be a lot longer, but I cut it off.
tropical dress with parrots! perfect for a day at the beach! I cut the bottom off of this dress too.

That is my thrift haul! Lately I have been really into cutting off the bottom of long dresses and skirts, to better fit my petite body. I might hem them later, but as of right now I actually like the raw edges.

It's been so long!

Hello Thrift Buddies!

I am so sorry that I have been absent these past couple of weeks. School has been super busy, which means I haven't had time to sneak out to a thrift store. Last week, however, I had a small break from school work, so my roommates and I took a mini road trip to Reading, PA where we indulged ourselves in thrift shops! We went to three thrift shops that day, and man did we find treasure! I can't wait to share with you guys all the goodies I found, but for now I will share a couple of pictures from our day.

Yes, we visited two Goodwills that day!

We passed by an alpaca farm ♥

The Reading skyline was so beautiful at sunset

Our trip was a much needed break from school. The ride up to Reading was very peaceful and beautiful. It's always nice to get away from the city and head out to the country.

In my next post I will show you guys all the cool pieces I found! But first, I have to survive finals week!

Crazy Thrift Shopper

Hey Thrift Buddies!

I have something to admit to all of you...I am a crazy thrift shopper.

Yep, it's true!

I just love thrifting so much! It is probably one of my favorite things to do. Goodwill is my happy place. Whenever I go to a thrift store, I can't help but smile as I walk through the doors and inhale the musty smell. I slowly walk through the rows of clothing, methodically selecting the pieces that are interesting and catch my eye. After a couple minutes my arms become piled high with beautiful pieces of clothing. People start to stare at me, the little girl covered in clothing...but I don't care. I then drag all the clothes into a changing room and have a party trying on different outfits.

I love the process of searching for cool vintage pieces. No matter what I know that the thrift store will always be a place where I can relax, leave my worries behind, and get lost in the endless rows of clothing.

So are you a crazy thrift shopper?
